About the event
If you’re a pro or amateur runner, wanting to improve your running efficiency and find more speed for less effort, lower your risk of injury, or get off the running plateau you’ve landed on, then optimising your habitual movement patterns is a great place to start. We all have Habits of Movement which could be optimised.
Few runners (let alone Physios!) know that a Human Pelvis has 8 possible motions If you are not using all 8 of your pelvic motions to full capacity, in a balanced way between your left and right sides, then you are not running efficiently. It is that simple.
This workshop is about helping you understand your body better, so you can look after it well and ENJOY your running. After all, if you’re not enjoying your running, what’s the point?
The Format of the Workshop will look like this :
- Movement Exploration One - FEEL in your own bodies the 8 Pelvic Motions so you can identify for yourself which motions need a "re-awakening".
- Movement Exploration Two - Exploring our Feet, knees and hips to see how they may Block your Pelvic Motions
- Movement Session Three - Run Specific Drills for each of the Pelvic Motions
- Q and A if time allows
These sessions will be more mentally challenging than physical. They will be best done Barefoot in the comfort of a private, quiet space so you can fully LEARN. Self-awareness is the key to changing movement patterns for the better. If you can't FEEL what you are doing, you can't change it.
Why would you listen to me ? It's a fair question, because there is a lot of noise in the running community - everyone has their thoughts on proper form, correct ways to run, toe strike VS heel strike, glut strengthening exercises, ITB rolling, etc It is hard to know who to listen to. A lot of therapists have the "base knowledge" but they don't have the diversity of influences that i have studied (listed below) nor have they spent the time experiencing these concepts in their own bodies during endless hours of moving outdoors. Yes I am a physio, Yes I am a foot specialist, Yes I am a pilates instructor, Feldenkrais Fan, Postural Neurologist, Fascial Manipulator, etc But that means Nothing if I can't present the knowledge in a meaningful way for the people I am attempting to help. So Know that I am one of you. I am a runner. I am a Movement Addict. My most favourite thing in LIfe is moving freely, outdoors, in nature - on foot, on a bike, in the ocean, on a kayak, etc. Sharing what i know in a straight forward, practical manner, so it can be easily implemented is my goal.
A body in flight, gliding across the ground, is a JOY to behold. My job is to show you how to create THAT.
Like any worthy mission however, true change takes time, patience, practice and repetition. Sorry to be a killjoy but there are no "quick fixes" with running efficiency. Neuroplasticity takes a minimum of 30 days. However, it is nice to know that when you find a more efficient way to move your pelvis, then it should feel exactly that - "EASIER, EFFORTLESS".
